Evelyn is another one of our Donegal child star country singers that made her name on the Irish Showband scene fronting Letterkenny band Evelyn and The Envoys Showband with Hugh. Like our other Donegal queens Margo and Bridie Gallagher she and the band were top draws where ever they played. I remember one time down in the West of Ireland we went to a dance where nobody had heard of the band that were playing on the night, so some of our gang were reluctant to go in thinking of travelling further to hear a big name band in another ballroom. I said I knew Letterkenny was a lovely small town in Donegal I used travel to with my work. I said I knew that all the bands around the area were great and that we should go to hear this band as we had nothing to lose. The gang agreed and all had a fabulous night. We were hooked on Evelyn, Hugh and The Envoys Showband. That was in the 60’s and little did I realize that a life time later I would be introducing my family and friends to this wonderful singer along with Hugh who they already know and love. How happy can life get being able to promote them together after an admiration that has lasted so long?
